Ancient Sanskrit texts including the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, plus the Puranas explain the nagas as a strong, splendid and happy semi-divine species which can assume their Bodily sort possibly as human (usually having a halo of cobra hoods powering their head), for a partly human serpent, or in general serpent.
